Today, we are diving into our flagship utility: ProteaSafe.
In simple terms, ProteaSafe is a digital safety net for our local spaza shops and community shoppers. We’ve all heard concerns about unverified goods, expired stock, or counterfeit products ending up on local retail shelves. ProteaSafe was designed to solve this exact problem using technology that sits right in your pocket.
How Does it Work?

The Certified Database: We coordinate directly with verified South African manufacturers to build a registry of genuine, authentic consumer products, along with their barcodes.

Easy Scanning: A store owner or safety checker uses the ProteaSafe application to scan a product’s barcode (such as canned foods, beverages, or cosmetics).

Instant Verification: The app checks the scanned barcode against our registry. If the product is authentic and certified, it displays a "Certified Authentic" green badge. If the product is unregistered or flagged, the app issues a warning so that unverified stock can be pulled from the shelf immediately.
By giving spaza shop owners the tools to verify their suppliers, and giving citizens the power to report suspicious products, ProteaSafe ensures that what we feed our families is authenticated, trace-verified, and safe.
